  5. Ribosomal protein S9 is one of the proteins from the  small ribosomal subunit.
  6. It belongs to a family of ribosomal  proteins which,  on the basis of sequence
  7. similarities [1,2], groups:

  10.  - Archaebacterial Halobacterium marismortui HmaS9 (HS3).
  11.  - Algal chloroplast S9.
  12.  - Mammalian and plant S16.

  14. As a signature pattern, we selected a conserved region containing many charged
  15. residues and located in the C-terminal section of these proteins.
